It's amazing how geeks love to re-invent the wheel. If you want a unique id, then use UUID. Don't invent me a new UUID. Please! And I hate URIs that don't point at something.

[Bob Wyman responds:
An important attribute of the tagUri method is that it makes it possible for anyone to create a unique ID without having to run the kind of specialized programs needed to generate UUIDs. This tremendous increase in the usabilty of the "unique ID generation process" is very important. UUIDs are great for geeks but confuse the heck out of non-Geeks. tagUri has a chance of being useful to "normal people." ]
